Yoga is a path to peace and a way of life. Headstands not required.
Many times, I've heard people who are curious about yoga say that they aren't flexible enough, so they haven't tried it. Spoiler alert: you don't need to be flexible at all to begin practicing yoga and becoming flexible in mind and/or body just may be an outcome of practicing (you'll never know unless you give it a try!).
There's so much more to yoga than being flexible and getting into complicated poses.
I share the practice of yoga based on Patanjali's 8 Limbs of yoga, and guess what? The postures (called asanas) that you may associate with "doing yoga," are just one of the 8 Limbs of yoga. Meditation, breathwork, and concentration are also limbs of the practice of yoga.
When someone decides that they want to practice yoga with me, I see this as opening a doorway together to an inner journey that is unique to each person who chooses to take it. What shows up for you in your yoga practice may not be the same as what shows up for me, and that's not only ok, it's necessary.
Instead of thinking of myself as a teacher of yoga, I choose to think of myself as a practitioner of yoga who deeply enjoys sharing the practice of the path with others.
Teaching special education in public schools for twenty years taught me how to meet individuals where they are without judgment and to help them move forward at their own pace, and I bring this skill to every yoga session I share. I welcome practice with all levels, and I'm especially fond of beginners.
If you're in Portland, Jamaica, I offer private in-person yoga sessions for individuals and groups. And if you're not here in Jamaica (yet!), don't worry! I also offer yoga sessions via Zoom.
